Today’s hot topics include net neutrality, network management, and the question of imposing regulatory limits on Internet service providers. But what will happen tomorrow? Can we speculate and get ahead of the curve? The success of the Internet has created high hopes for new applications and services, but massive growth in  multimedia content is proving challenging for today’s Internet. “Future Internet” research and development threads have been gaining momentum all over the world, with the international race to create a new generation Internet in full swing. Speakers will explore the role of the ISP, and examine emerging issues, such as the role of social networks as a platform for exchange and real-time communication, the problems of building a more secure and available Internet, emerging requirements for identity mechanisms, and the implications of network virtualization and overlays and how the Internet will evolve.
